Yes, the 9/11 hijackers were Muslims.
Also: Adolf Hitler was a Catholic Christian. Timothy McVeigh was a Protestant Christian.
This generalization that Americans do, when it comes to Muslims, is thoroughly unfair. It would be as if I gave an entire class of my students the grade earned by the LOWEST-performing student in that class.

Because Americans are stupid. And I say that as an American.
becuase thier stupid!,
there are muslims and muslim extemeists they think all muslims are extremeists becuase of it, its just a stereo type now.
How do you know they were Muslims? were you on the plane? anybody worth their salt knows it wasn’t terrorists and if it was it was funded by certain interests.
Of course people are going to judge based on the worst performers and the best performers. They say asian people are smart and good at math…italians get angry easily and blacks…well you get the picture.
Plus muslims are one of the only groups of people who blow themselves up for their god.
I’m not going to defend the fairness of it. What I will say is that it’s just prevalent in our culture.
People make jokes about all Catholics being child molesters, all Muslims being terrorists, all fat people making a conscious choice to be fat, all blondes being stupid, etc..I could go on forever.
Obviously everyone knows that not all Muslims are terrorists.
It’s not right, it’s just our culture.
Because people in general are narrow minded fools.
because they’re simple minded and conditioned to.
we’re (USA) the “give me convenience or give me death” country.
It’s much easier for folks to make a quick and broad generalization rather than research and inquire to form an opinion.
*sigh*
Does not take much to get hate going.
I still hate muslims.
and hitler was an athiest
why?
because this is the face of islam that is not uniformly denounced by even alleged “moderate” muslims.
hard line muslims support the attacks and terrorism in general-
and moderates eitehr support it privately (financially or morally), and are “wishy washy” at condemning the terrorism.
this backed by the fact that many countries like saudi arabia openly give funding to known terrorist organizations.
thus in this case if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
the VERY small minority of muslims who are in any position of power to do something to clean up the religion, chose not to- (so called moderates).
so long as they refuse to speak out and condemn those that don’t condemn terrorism and its supporters and financers, they too are part of the problem.
not all situations are “us or them” but unfortunately the way this one has unfolded, it is now “us or them” type of scenario- “us” doesn’t necessarily mean the united states- but a less radical islam which is what the u.s. supports-
the last major upheaval and turning point in the religion, was after the crusades- islam chose to follow the path of isolationism for a period and that was likely the last “us or them” type of scenario.
you can’t cry and complain “why do we look like this” when the lowest performing student, is pretty much the not so far off from the highest grade to use your analogy- if the lowest grade is a 31 with the highest bieng a 52, thats still an F.
you are asking us to grade it on a curve and hold you to a different standard and make that 52 the highest grade in the class even though it doesn’t meet minimum standards.
prove it- go out there and rally against the atrocities of the religion, those who cause it in its name and finance it.
when iranians are risking death by protesting a corrupt political process, don’t tell me that large chunks of a population don’t want to or lack the courage too.
either they support it when it comes to the religion, or they don’t want to or they are too lazy or see nothign wrong with terrorism in the religion and extremism-
the iranian protests prove that some have the stones to go against an oppressive government.
Every group stereotypes other groups based upon the behavior of some. It is not just an American versus Muslim thing. Why do whites and Asians stereotype blacks as violent thugs? Why do blacks stereotype whites as racists? Because that’s what humans do to each other. Instead of just taking issue with the stereotypers, though, I believe all stereotyped groups need to assess their own behavior, as well, and get to the root of the stereotype. There is no doubt that whenever non-Muslim areas get sustantial Muslim populations, there is just about always a great deal of tension between the Muslim and non-Muslim community, and I can tell you the Muslims are not innocent angels. In Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, 80% of reported rape cases are perpetrated by Muslim men, despite Muslims making up less than 5% of all these countries.
i just finished reading a book called,” the stoning of soraya”
it was shocking..
thank god, m not a muslim.
Well in my opinion, it is also a stereotype say that all Americans hate Muslims as well, right?
I am Muslim myself, currently in a non-Muslim country (not USA), and I have not seen one single problem with me being Arab or Muslim.
Cause of ignorance
We shouldn’t judge all people based on the actions of a few, true. But the Muslims that attacked America did so as a Jihad, a holy war. This makes it different than Hitler, and McVeigh. Neither of them said they were hurting and killing others because their faith required it.
Hitler was baptized Catholic, but he was not a practicing Catholic. He did not kill 6 million Jews all the while saying he was doing so as a Christian Catholic and carrying out the tenets of his faith.
McVeigh, as far as I know, never mentioned his faith in what he did.
But the Muslims who attacked America, did so because of their faith. Misguided, yes, but there are others just as misguided who continue to plan attacks against innocent human beings.
We shouldn’t generalize, but your analogies are not really appropriate.
Lets say all blue-eyed people in the world banded together and created for themselves a blue-eyed cult type connection. Let’s say they considered brown and green eyes to be evil, or at least inferior. An intense misguided group of the blue-eyed people, broke away and attacked and killed many people of different eye color, because of their different eye color. This would naturally cause a perspective of suspicion against blue-eyed people. It is human nature.
Islam is not compatible with Western civilization.
how do you know he was muslim?
it’s just politics.
all of muslims are not arabs.
politic is sucks
Hitler was not a Christian at all, just because people do things in the name of a religion or a God does not mean they are true followers of that God. A lot of bad things have been done int he name of God whether it be the Christian God or Allah or Shiva or any other god. I have never judged Muslims or any other religion and I know a lot of Americans who have no ill will towards Muslims. Ignorance and the need to blame is why some Americans blame all Muslims for the actions of a few. And racism is not specific to the white man regardless of what some ignorant people think. And has nothing to do with stupidity it is ignorance. I know that you are not judging all Americans from what I read, but some of the people answering calling the white man stupid and Americans stupid are just ignorant. Anyone who judges another will be judged more harshly then those that follow the full word.
Why are YOU making these generalizations about Americans? Answer that, and you may find you have the answer inside of you.
In my observation, Muslim-haters are distributed geographically. The places with the least diversity hate them the most.
The place with the most diversity, including two of the places most affected by 9/11; namely, NYC and northern New Jersey, are the least likely to hate Muslims just because they are Muslims.
There are many living and working here and since 9/11 Muslim groups have reached out to the wider community and interreligious groups have formed to combat misconceptions and foster understanding.
Take the plank out of your own eye before you point out the speck in another’s.
i’m saying this as an american and….
many of those people are ignorant, disrespectful, judgemental, and not cultured. in other words big mouth, small brain, sorry it’s true people who say that should really go educate themselves before opening their big mouths
According to Professor Noam Chomsky of MIT, the US media is the most effective propaganda mechanism in the world. The Russians would love to have the same illusion of objectivity that American media enjoys.
My answer is that Americans have been misled by mass media. If you investigate information about the 19 suicide hijackers who you are told died in the airplane crashes, however, you soon discover that over half of these dead men have given interviews in Europe after 9/11/2001. The FBI has not updated its list of hijackers and the media ignores this huge inconsistency.
Americans are the best entertained and the least informed of any population of the world.
I have a lot of Muslim friends around the world in IM, people in Egypt, in Pakistan, in Jordan, in the Philippines, in Tunisia, in Turkey, in Iran, and in Saudi Arabia. I know these people. My friend in Pakistan and I have been chatting at least once a week since 1999.
But sometimes, it is very hard for me to love Muslims.
Forget 9/11. 9/11 was one act by fewer than 100 people. I can find you 100 people who are crazy like that in any demographic.
It’s 9/11 AND Mumbai AND the riots in France AND the Danish cartoon riots AND the Bali bombings AND the Spanish train bombings AND the English tube bombing AND the violence in Surya province AND the Hamas attacks on Israel AND the attacks on protesters in Iran (Muslim violence isn’t directed only at non-Muslims) AND the murder of Daniel Pearl AND the Punjab church attaack AND the systematic persecution of Muslim women throughout the Muslim world AND the fatwahs against authors like Salman Rushdie AND the destruction of the Buddhas of Banyam AND Mogadishu AND the USS Cole.
It is even, frankly, Muslim taxi drivers in Detroit who refuse to carry passengers leaving the airport with bottles of liquor from duty free shops.
And for the record, I feel the same sense of hostility toward the ETA and felt it for the IRA when they were bombing and killing people.
If Muslims don’t want to be hated, then they need to be part of the solution to this horrid problem. When Muslims sit in silence and don’t decry the violence being perpetrated in the name of their God, then they shouldn’t be surprised if they are treated with hostility.
You mean like Keith Ellison? First muslim ever to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, notably AFTER 9/11?
You mean the Mayor of Macon, Georgia, in the deep South, Jack Ellis, who’s muslim?
You mean Muhummad Ali, or Kareem Abdul Jabbar, or Muhsin Muhammed, wide receiver for the Chicago Bears?
Try again, moron. You don’t know Americans, or America for that matter.
We don’t hate Muslims. In fact, we have over 5 million muslims in America.
Who we hate, are the highjackers. And they were muslim only in name. I know nothing about the muslim faith that promotes what they did. They’re muslim like Hitler was Christian.
You fail miserably.
The Muslims are an unknown commodity.
The typical reaction of humans towards things unknown is to either make fun of it or to want to kill it.
