Had Ayres, a domestic terrorist, been able to carry out his full intentions, he would have killed hundreds. The bomb he planned for the NCO club would have killed hundreds if it had not gone off before being planted. Ayres got off on a technicality because the FBI screwed up the investigation by illegal wiretapping. When he left the courthouse he proudly told the press, “Guilty as hell, free as a bird.”
Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma city bomber, was also a domestic terrorist who hated the military. His bombings DID go off as planned. He was charged, convicted and put to death.
There is no difference between the mission of both these men. One got off, one did not. Had Timothy McVeigh got off on a technicality, would you be OK with Obama’s relationship with him.
All those republicans are not running for the President of the United States.

But Obama doesn’t really “hang around” with Ayers. They served on the same Board with Annenberg, alongside many Republicans. Should all of those Republicans also be taintined by association? Why not?

I am not comfortable with obama, at all he has way too many questionable associations.

No. Because Ayers would be in jail or executed. You see, Ayers did not actually kill any one. That makes him nothing more than a common vandal. If Ayers crimes were serious there is no way he’d be a free man. What do you know about what the people in your life did while you were 8 years old?

Apparently some people would be fine with it- the only difference between Ayers and McVeigh as you pointed out is that McVeigh was successful.
I hear Ayers is a professor now- I couldn’t even imagine sitting in his class- what a very sick man to plot the death of innocent people to prove a political point. Just your basic street thug and now he is influencing our youth.

The Dems keep fighting back by saying that Ayers is “all turned around now, a professor, good guy”… what if that was McVeigh, what if he got by the legal system like Ayers and was associated with Obama after he performed those acts but was “sopposedly good now”…
I dont think many people would like that then, so why now
I am getting sick and tired of these cheap shots at Obama for being in the same room with Ayres for no more than a full 24 hours of his life span. It’s this type of political mud slinging that only prolongs America’s problems and solves nothing. We need to look to the future instead of living in the past. Unfortunately, these cheap shots are not isolated to the Republicans, mud-slinging is bipartisan. It needs to end.

Obama has now admitted under public scrutiny, he did in fact know Ayers was a terrorist. He has changed his answer from, just a guy in the neighborhood, to he thought he was rehabilitated terrorist. SO !! I, guess thats OK then.

This Ayers crap is not working. It’s only making republicans look like mean, nasty, liars. When the election is over and Obama is the president, and nobody has any respect left for your party, you will wish you hadn’t made total fools of yourselves. Well, to be fair, Bush did most of that for you.
You should also “do your homework” and check out some of McCain’s friends… McCain is running for president, but has murderers and thieves as friends!

I love how the posters above me excuse Ayers because he was not “succesful”. Does that mean people shouldn’t be prosecuted for attempted murder or attempted rape? I think what people are ignoring is who Obama chooses to associate with is a reflection of him. People laugh at me when I say Obama scares me but he does. On so many levels.
Number one – McVeigh was a RIGHT WING NUT JOB. If you haven’t noticed, that’s where all of the real kooks are these days.
Number two – it has been clearly established that Obama and Ayers had no relationship other than a workplace relationship.
