  1. Volcanoes in a divergence zone: Hekla, Langai
Hotspot volcanoes: Mauna Loa, Hekla ( Hekla happens to be both on a hotspot and a divergence zone)
Middle of a continent: Lengai is in the middle of the African Continet, however, it is in the rift Valley which is also a divergence Zone, eventually, east Africa will break off from the rest of the continent.

Most of the rest are on or near subduction zones

    thnx a lot

  3. Hekla is in Iceland..that is on a divergent area. Erta Ale in Ethiopia, and Ol Doinyo Lengai in Kenya are also near an area that is diverging (The Great Rift)
Mauna Loa is on a hotspot
The others are part of volcanic arcs and in areas where subduction occurs. Even if the actual subduction is off shore and several hundreds of miles away it still feeds magma chambers and drags in bits of water that turn to steam. That makes 99% of these volcanoes violent.
