Is there a high possibility of going into labor at 37 weeks?

My boyfriend is going to Las Vegas the last weekend of August for a friend’s bachelor party. I’ll be 37 weeks pregnant though. Is it likely I could go into labor? I’m really worried about it!

  1. No, it’s not likely. Unless there’s pregnancy complications, most women don’t deliver until 41 weeks (give or take a few days).

  2. It’s a possibility. I wouldn’t say that it’s highly likely or unlikely. There’s really no way to tell. The baby will come when he/she feels like it. Perhaps you could ask your doctor to check your cervix the week before to give you an idea whether or not you’ll go into labor soon.

  3. you can start going into labor at 36 weeks but it rarely happens if you have had any difficulties, you should carry the baby full term.

  4. It is very likely!

How far of a trip is it? How quickly could he get back if he had to?

If he doesn’t want to miss the delivery, I’d suggest not going if he couldn’t get back pretty quickly.

  5. Your estimated due date is just that, an estimate and can be off by one to two weeks. At 37 weeks you are considered full term and can definitely go into labor.

Just because you were not dilated the week before does not mean you will not dilate this week. I think it is a poor choice for your boyfriend to go out of town now.

I was 3 cm dilated when I was 37 weeks and was sent to the hospital a few days later for a c-section.

Even if you don’t deliver, the possibility is there. Why risk it?

  6. dont stress over it. stress can trigger labor or your water to break….it can happen, but its normal. if this is your first baby…oh yeah! your freaking out. i was the same way…just have him leave a number where you can reach him just in case.. or have someone stay with you the duration that he’s gone. (mom, sister, brother, dad, friends)

  7. Not likely, especially if its your first baby. Watch for “signs” such as losing your mucus plug or if the baby drops. It can still take days to weeks once these things happen though. Watch for strong, regular contractions that get stronger and more frequent. Make sure you have other family or friends available just incase. And make sure he has his cell on at all times and is ready to jump on a plane back home IF it happens.
You should be fine, good luck!

  8. 37 weeks is considered full term. There is always the possibility that you could go into labor. The two of you need to have a plan for how he will get back quickly if needed. Try to take it easy that weekend. Congrats!

  9. Is this a first baby? If so, labor could last a while. You aren’t really considered “full term” until 38 weeks, but there is always the possibility of going a little early.

I went into labor at 38 weeks with my second child. My other 3 were 40-42 weeks, 2 of them induced. If you aren’t showing any signs yet I wouldn’t worry about it. You will probably have time.

I would give him grief for going though, just cuz that’s how I am…give him heck! ;)

    Good Luck!

  10. It’s more genetics than anything else. You can estimate that you’ll go in to labor like your mom did. My mom was 3 weeks late with her first and I was 2 weeks and 3 days late with mine. My sister in law was 13 days early with her first and her mom was 11 days early with her first. I guess just ask your mom if you can.

  11. There is a possibility it’s all up to the baby. When you go for your appt closer to that time have your dr check to see if you have started to dialate.

  12. Babies come when they are ready and your in the right range to have a child this week. Just have a back up driver to get you to the hospital. You certainly don’t need him there when the baby is born, our first 3 my guy wasn’t there. I was just fine and preferred him to be away. He is a good Dad but he isn’t necessary for the birthing despite what all ‘modern’ thought prescribes they aren’t always getting it right!
